Rumi has been adopted and lives with Nutella, also from SaveABunny!
This is Marcy writing on Rumi the rabbit's behalf. Rumi is named after a great spiritual Sufi master and poetic genius. The essence of Rumi's poems was beauty and love. This special bunny is very sweet, yet in deep, deep need of ongoing love and healing. Unfortunately, his foster home just fell through, so we need your help.
It's obvious from Rumi's appearance and behavior that he hadn't had a good life before he came to SaveABunny. He cowers, freezes in fear and whimpers when he is approached or handled. He clearly has been neglected---if not abused, and expects the worst of people. Until now, ignorance, indifference and inhumane treatment is what he has seen and experienced. He DOES really warms up with love and patience.
Rumi needs a quiet and patient foster or adoptive home to learn to trust people and life itself. Sometimes people ask why we take in rabbits facing euthanasia like Rumi when so many adoptable rabbits need our help. Well, we evaluate each rabbit very carefully to see if he/she has the will to live if given the time and space to heal. We also see miracles and truly touching recoveries that bring us both tears and joy. This transformation is the one of the most powerful experiences of rescue work and often reminds of us why we do this heartbreaking work. These vulnerable and innocent little beings are a lesson is forgiveness, courage and overcoming adversity.
If you choose to foster Rumi or a special needs rabbit like him, you will experience the true meaning of service, unconditional love and compassion for all living beings. If you have room in your heart and home for Rumi, you will know love like no other. In the words of the poet Rumi:
" Don't look at your form, however ugly or beautiful. Look at love and at the aim of your quest. ...
O you whose lips are parched, keep looking for water. Those parched lips are proof that eventually you will reach the source."
